Spotlight: Scott Humpert August 2024

Scott Humpert

Scott, a proud native of Oregon who grew up in the Valley, has fond memories of his childhood vacations in Central Oregon. Over the years, he has witnessed Sisters evolve from a quaint town into a vibrant community with excellent schools and a distinctive local charm. When the chance arose for Scott to move to Sisters with his wife and their three children—ranging from elementary to high school—he eagerly seized the opportunity.

A University of Oregon graduate, Scott ventured into project management and marketing, eventually specializing in destination management. This field requires a unique skill set to not only promote tourism but also to ensure that a community maintains a sustainable balance between being a great place to live and a desirable destination for visitors. Explore Sisters goes beyond traditional marketing; it integrates economic, social, inclusive, and environmental perspectives to meet its commitment to local livability and stewardship of natural resources.  To this end, Explore Sisters will develop a strategic plan aimed at optimizing financial resources, understanding the capacity of Sisters, and developing partnerships to guide thoughtful growth.

This strategic planning process will be inclusive and the community will have opportunities to contribute their ideas on how to maintain local livability while fostering economic development. Scott underscores that the strategic plan, set to unfold in the coming months and into next year is just one avenue for community involvement. He encourages participation in City, EDCO (Economic Development Central Oregon), and other business group initiatives, as each contributes to shaping Sisters’ future.

Scott envisions a Sisters that offers the visitor exactly what it is: an authentic, rural small town that offers visitors a range of outdoor activities amidst stunning landscapes. He believes that local residents should also benefit from resources similar to those enjoyed by visitors, such as a healthy trail system, wild and clean rivers, and the geological wonders of Central Oregon. Scott is keen to hear your thoughts on what should stay the same and what might change as Sisters continues to grow. Stay tuned for more updates!
